Getting a remote job isn’t as hard as it is commonly perceived. It is similar to the traditional job search process, although there’s a twist to it. Without further ado, let’s delve right in.

There are ten basic steps to land your first remote job. These steps are categorized into four stages: the pre-application, the scouting or job-finding stage, the application stage, and the post-application stage.

Let’s take them one after the other.

A. Pre-Application Stage

This stage is for preparation, just before sending out your job applications.

1. Build the right skills

Having a high-income skill is the most important factor if you’re looking to land a good remote job. There’ll always be demand for people with the right skillset any day. Also, when you have a high-income skill that’s in demand, you’ll be well-paid.

Before you set out looking for remote work, you need to either build the skills required from scratch or improve on what you already have. This step is very important and you must not skip it.

Why?

Because the process of employing remote workers is usually rigorous since employers want to engage only those who are highly skilled and experienced.
