The AI Revolution: Transforming Industries and Shaping the Future

About four months ago, I came across an article in the Guardian (UK) titled: “The future of AI is chilling — humans have to act together to overcome this threat to civilization.”

As the title suggests, the emergence of artificial intelligence posed a threat to humanity, which, if not properly managed, could pose a bigger problem.

Well, they’re not wrong. Large corporations globally have begun to cut down jobs by adopting artificial intelligence in their business operations. For example, BT Telecoms group aims to become ‘leaner’ as it cuts more than 40% of its 130,000 global workforce. They aim to axe up to 55,000 jobs by 2030.

This led me to read more about AI and its supposed threat to humanity. The summary of my findings is that there is the good and bad side to large-scale AI adoption.

In 2018, the Pew Research Center surveyed nearly 979 experts, including tech pioneers and innovators, on the topic of networked artificial intelligence (AI). These experts predicted that networked AI would enhance human capabilities while posing threats to human autonomy. They believed that AI could potentially surpass humans in tasks like decision-making, reasoning, and pattern recognition.
